The Coral Springs High School journalism program attended the FSPA (Florida Scholastic Press Association) state convention this weekend. The convention consisted of seminars, competitions, a banquet and dance, and interactions with teen journalists from all over the state.

For the second year in a row, The Chronicle newspaper earned an All-Florida ranking, which puts us among the top school papers in the state.

The Chronicle's design team, consisting of editors Samantha Schwab, Allie Schutt, Ashley Rynar, and Jamie Klein took 1st prize in the On-the-Spot newspaper layout competition, with Schutt also taking 3rd prize in the Carry-In version of the contest.

On Saturday, February 13th, 18 of our students proudly represented our school in the District World Languages Competition. They participated in the following categories: impromptu, declamation, finger spelling, poster, project, and talent. They all did an outstanding job. Our students scored as follows:

The Coral Spring High School Colt Band participated in the Florida Bandmasters Association District 15-Solo and Ensemble assessment and Jazz Band Assessment this past weekend. The Colt Band had 27 soloists, 9 small ensembles, 1 large ensemble, Winter Guard, and Jazz Band performing for adjudicators. The judges gave each event a rating with Superior being the highest. Each student receiving a Superior rating in any category received a medal. Our program brought home 52 medals and a Superior rating plaque for Jazz Band.

Of the Superior rated entries, 5 soloists qualified for the State Solo and Ensemble assessment next month. These soloists are: Moshe Paul-percussion; Jeremy Mezei-clarinet; Jeffrey Goldblatt-trombone; Vishaun Samaroo-saxophone; Sandy Henry-trumpet; and Felipe Maldonado-auxiliary.

The Woodwind Choir and Winter Guard also qualified for State. And the Jazz Band qualified for the State event for the 4th time in the past 6 years.

This past weekend the Coral Springs High Debate Team competed against schools from all across the South Florida Region in the CFL University School Tournament. Our team dominated in one of the most prestigious debate events, Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Jensen Holroyd won 4th place in Lincoln-Douglas and Feyaad Allie was the TOURNAMENT CHAMPION in Lincoln-Douglas! Jensen's 4th place finish was especially noteworthy because this was her first attempt at competing in this particular event, which is known as one of the most difficult debate events to master. Feyaad has been competing in this event all year but this was his first time winning the tournament (he has placed as high as 3rd in the past).

Congratulations to the Coral Springs High Marching Colts Band for placing 10th in Class 3A at the FMBC State Marching Band Tournament.
