
PREAMBLE
We the student body of Coral Springs High
School, in order to form a more perfect school, efficient form of student
government, facilitate communication between our administration, faculty, and
student body, to insure the right of representation and justice, do hereby
ordain and establish this Constitution for Coral Springs High School.
ARTICLE I
The name of this organization shall be The Student Council of Coral Springs High
School.
ARTICLE II
The purpose of this organization shall
be to promote the unification of the student body, provide an opportunity for
individual expression through democratic representation, act as a liaison
between the students, faculty, administration, and community, provide orderly
direction of student affairs, and foster pride and spirit among Coral Springs
High School students and staff.
ARTICLE III
Section I - The Student Council
Officers
The Student Council Officers shall consist of an elected president,
vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer, and historians. The sponsor shall
determine the number of vice-presidents and historians.
Section II
- The Class Officers
The Class Officers shall consist of an elected president, vice-president,
secretary, treasurer, and historian. The sponsor shall determine the number of
vice-presidents and historians.
Section III - The Executive Branch
The Executive Branch shall consist of the elected student council officers and
the elected class presidents.
Section IV - The Colt Corral
The Colt Corral shall consist of all students of Coral Springs High School.
ARTICLE IV
All candidates for Student Council or Class Office shall meet the following
requirements:
1. Must be enrolled in the Leadership Class for at least one term during the
school year in which they hold office.
2. Must attend all of the Student Council and Class activities and meetings or
they may be removed from office.
3. Must have minimum of 2.5 unweighted GPA and no unsatisfactory conduct grade
the preceding nine weeks.
4. All candidates for Class Office shall, at the time of election, have the
signature of at least three of his/her present teachers endorsing the
qualifications of the candidate.
5. All candidates for Student Government must get a petition signed by 50
classmates endorsing the qualifications of the candidate.
6. All candidates for Class Offices must get a petition signed by 20 students of
their grade level endorsing the qualifications of the candidate.
7. Candidates have documented volunteer service hours.
a. up coming seniors must have 40 hours of documented volunteer service prior to
the end of the semester before the election.
b. up coming juniors must have 30 hours of documented volunteer service prior to
the end of the semester before the election.
c. up coming sophomores must have 15 hours of documented volunteer service prior
to the end of the semester before the election.
ARTICLE V
Section I - Qualifications for Student Council
Officers
A. President
1. Must be a senior.
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point
average.
3. May not have any unsatisfactory conduct grade prior to election and during
time in office.
4. May not be President or Vice-President of any other club or organization.
B. Vice-Presidents
1. Must be a junior and a senior.
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point
average.
3. May not have any unsatisfactory conduct grade prior to election and during
time in office.
4. May not be President or Vice-President of any other club or organization.
C. Secretary
1. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point
average.
3. May not have any unsatisfactory conduct grade prior to election and during
time in office.
4. May not be President or Vice-President of any other club or organization.
D. Treasurer
1. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point
average.
3. May not have any unsatisfactory conduct grade prior to election and during
time in office.

E. Historian
1. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point

Section II - Duties for Student Council Officers
A. President
1. To call and preside over any meeting and any special meetings and assemblies
of the student body
2. To maintain a close relationship with the administration, advisors, and
students as to the projects, activities, and concerns of the Student Council
3. To oversee and hold the responsibility of forming the agenda for all meetings
4. To read and seek approval of all Student Council minutes.
5. To attend all Student Government related functions.
6. To enroll in and preside over the Leadership class both semesters.
7. To assist and attend all Class fund-raising projects for the length project.
8. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
B. First Vice-President
1. To assist the President in all ways and situations.
2. To preside over meetings and supervise activities when the President is
unable.
3. To coordinate and supervise all committees and meet with all chair people
after the committee meetings.
4. To have a full vote at all meetings
5. To assist in all Student Council fund-raising projects and attend all Student
Government related activities for the length project.
6. To enroll in the Leadership class.
7. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
C. Second Vice-President
1. To act as the inter-school liaison for Student Council including the BCASC,
District VI, FASC, SASC, and NASC.
2. To act as a liaison between Student Council and all inner-school clubs.
3. To assist the president in all ways.
4. To have a full vote at all meetings
5. To assist in all Student Council fund-raising projects and attend all Student
Government related activities for the length project.
6. To enroll in the Leadership class.
7. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
D. Secretary
1. To record and reread the minutes of all meetings.
2. To take attendance at all meetings.
3. To maintain files for Student Council business.
4. To duplicate and distribute all papers of Student Council concern.
5. To keep an accurate record of all past Student Council activities which
should include the reasons for their success or failure and
student opinion of them.
6. To have a full vote at all meetings.
7. To enroll in the Leadership class.
8. To conduct all corresponding concerns for the Student Council (i.e.
announcements, memos, etc.)
9. To formulate and type all outgoing letters and documents.
10. To maintain a file of all correspondence.
11. To assist in all Student Council fund-raising projects and attend all
Student Government related activities for the length project.
12. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
E. Treasurer
1. To collect, deposit, and control all transactions of money by the Student
Council under the supervision of the school bookkeeper
and the Student Council Advisor.
2. To be responsible for keeping an accurate record of all financial
transactions at General Assembly meetings, or where otherwise
requested.
3. To have a full vote at all meetings.
4. To assist in all Student Council fund-raising projects and attend all Student
Government related activities for the length project.
5. To enroll in the Leadership class.
6. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
F. Historian
1. To document all Student Council activities and projects.
2. To create a scrap book at the end of each school year to memorialize the
activities of the
Student Council.
3. To create presentations for awards at district, state, or other conventions
attended by Student
Council.
4. To have a full vote at all meetings.
5. To assist in all Student Council fund-raising projects and attend all Student
Government related activities for the length project.
6. To enroll in the Leadership class.
7. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
ARTICLE VI

B. Vice-President
1. Must be a member of the class he/she has been elected.
2. Must have at the time of election and maintain a 2.5 unweighted grade point
average.
3. May not have any unsatisfactory conduct grade prior to election and during
time in office.
4. May not be President or Vice-President of any other club or organization.
5. Must be enrolled in Leadership class for at least one semester of school

C. Secretary

6. To assist and attend all Class fund-raising projects for the length project.
7. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.
E. Historian
1. To document all class activities and projects.
2. To create a scrap book at the end of each school year to memorialize the
activities of the
class.
3. To create presentations for awards at district, state, or other conventions
attended by the
class.
4. Senior Class Historian must also create, with the aide of class members, the
senior slide
show to memorialize the progression of the class throughout high school.
5. To attend and vote at all meetings.
6. To assist and attend all Class fund-raising projects for the length project.
7. Must attend pre-planning week one week prior to the start of school.

ARTICLE VII
Section I - Qualifications of the Colt Corral
1. Must be a student of Coral Springs High School.
Section II - Duties of the Colt Corral
1. Must attend all Colt Corral meetings or class assemblies.
2. Must keep notes of all-important activities discussed at Colt Corral meetings
and to report to their fellow students on all activities
on the day following the meeting.
3. To assist in all fund raising projects pertaining to the Colt Corral and
their classes
ARTICLE VIII
Section I - Advisor
If the present faculty advisor of any organization or club in the school can no
longer fulfill the job requested of him/her, the Assistant Principal shall
choose a new advisor. The advisor shall be present at all assemblies, Colt
Corral meetings, and Executive Branch meetings. If the advisor fails to fulfill
their duties, the officers shall bring it to the attention of the Assistant
Principal.
Section II - Designated Meeting Times
A. Executive Branch - Shall meet daily.
B. Class Meeting - Shall meet at least once a month.
C. Colt Corral - Shall meet when needed.
Section III - Special Meeting Times
Special meetings shall be called when deemed necessary by the President or
faculty advisors.
Section IV - Quorum
A quorum shall consist of the presence of two-thirds of the voting members. A
quorum must be present to hold a vote.
ARTICLE IX
Section I - Elimination From Office
Any elected or appointed official of the Student Council/Student Government has
the right to bring his/her case before a Student Council Review Board before a
vote may be taken on his/her removal from office.
Section II - Review Board
The Review Board shall consist of the Executive Branch Advisors and other
appointed adults.
Section III - Steps of Removal
Any Executive Branch officer, or appointed official, may be brought before the
Review Board:
A. When it is brought to the attention of the Review Board, the Student Council
shall prove that this person act(s) was detrimental to the Student Council
and/or the school. The Faculty Advisor shall be given this proof and he/she
shall call the meeting of the Review Board.
Section IV - Procedure for Removal
A. The Executive Board officials may be removed from office by a two-thirds
majority vote of the review board.
B. Class Officers may be removed from office with:
1. Two-thirds majority vote from the Review Board.
C. Appointed officials may be removed from office by a two-thirds majority vote
of the Review Board.
Section V - Reasons for Removal from Office
A. The Executive Branch
1. Repeated unexcused absences from any meeting or other important functions
requiring attendance.
2. Noncompliance to school regulations or local, state, and federal laws.
3. Misrepresentation of his/her office and/or of the school.
4. Failure to carry out his/hers specific duties.
5. Dishonesty.
B. The Class Officers.
1. Repeated unexcused absences from any meeting or other important functions

ARTICLE X
This set of rules and regulations for the operation of Student Council at Coral
Springs High School may be amended. Amendments to this constitution must be
approved by the Student Council Advisor(s), and must pass a Student Council
meeting vote by a 2/3 majority. Amendments shall be enforced immediately upon
ratification.
AMENDMENT TO CSHS
CONSTITUTION
March 13, 2003
As of March 13, 2003 the Leadership class voted to amend the Student Council
Constitution regarding the margin of error for co-officers. The two proposals
were:
1. No margin of error and the only officers to receive a co-position would be
candidates receiving the exact same number of votes.
2. Margin of 10 votes and any candidates within this margin will be awarded
co-office.
The proposal for the 10 vote margin was passed by 2/3 vote of the class.
