2007 was another outstanding Cross Country season for one of Coral Springs High's most successful athletic programs. The men's team closed out the regular season with strong showings at the Southern Stars meet in Tampa and at the Northwest Community Classic. The youthful squad entered the State Series and after a fine 7th place finish in one of the state's toughest districts, returned to the Regional meet. Having excellent seasons were Casey Claire, Dan Cardenas, Lee Stransky, Russell Larkins, Mike Defuria, Emilio Lopez, Grant Maller, and Billy James.

The women's team continued a string of impressive seasons, closing with an all time school best 30 dual meet wins, again captured the team title in the Northwest Community Classic, and had fine showings at major invitational meets throughout the regular season. Moving onto the State Series, led by senior captains Emily Moseley and Melanite Lyon, along with Samantha Shreffler, Candice Patrick, Jenevah Porter, Sarah Benckenstein, Gabby D'Angelo, and Erika Charlassier, the squad put together a string of excellent team performances. A runner-up finish in one of the state's toughest districts was followed by another wonderful effort at the regional meet, advancing the team to the State Meet for the 15th consecutive year. The squad closed out the campaign with their best team race of the year to finish an outstanding 12th at the State Championships.

Both squads will look to continue the "tradition of excellence" in 2008. If anyone wishes to become a new member of this outstanding group of young men and women, please see Coach Barr at the school or call him at 754-322-0500. Everyone is invited; no experience is needed!

Our program has evolved into one of the premier programs in not just Broward County, but in the entire state of Florida. No school in the county has won as many combined County Championships as the Colts, nor does any have as long a consecutive appearance streak in the State Meet as the girls' team does. Year after year, the teams are invited to compete in major invitational meets throughout the state. The program has the highest winning percentage of all-time at Coral Springs High and continually has a team GPA among the best in the school. This has occurred because of the outstanding young men and women that become part of the program and the wonderful support given by the parents of those athletes and the school administration.

Everyone is invited to give Cross Country a try. There have been many times that students have decided in their senior year to come out for the team. When the season was over, they all said the same thing: " I really enjoyed Cross Country and wish that I had come out sooner."Don't make the same mistake! Come out for the Colt Cross Country teams today!
